The Encore drum head is an aftermarket head made in Remo's factory in Taiwan. The film is comparable to that used in Remo American's production of the WeatherKing®, but the construction is different—it is an aluminum channel that is crimped around a steel insert ring, as opposed to the WeatherKing®, which has an open channel poured (glued) head. Most frequently, the crimped design is utilized in mid-line original equipment production and offered in more budget-conscious after-market regions. More quickly than the poured head, the crimped design becomes worn out. The vast majority of drummers and drum makers concur that the sound of the poured head is noticeably superior to that of the crimped head due to the strains that the film depicts in the construction of a crimped head.
